HOSTUX.PAGE · Version française
Privacy
Hostux.page works without an account, ads, cookies or analytics. Your settings are saved in your browser.
Effective date: 17 October 2026. The French version prevails.
What stays on your device
First name, links, notes, cities, favourite quotes and wallpapers, settings and spaces are stored in your browser’s local storage. Your personal images are stored in the same browser and are never uploaded. The site also keeps a limited copy of recent pages, forecasts, quotes and wallpapers so that it works offline.
This data never leaves the device, unless you export a backup file yourself or turn on sync with a code. It disappears when you clear the site data in your browser. In the settings, “Spaces and backup” lets you export it, and “Privacy and help → Storage on this device” lets you empty the local copies.
This storage only serves the features you ask for. It contains no tracker and therefore requires no consent.
What goes through the Hostux server
Your browser only contacts hostux.page, with one exception: search, which opens the engine you chose directly. External content is requested by the Hostux server, so providers see the server’s address, never yours.
| Feature | Provider | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| City search | Open-Meteo (geocoding) | The name you typed |
| Weather, air quality, pollen | Open-Meteo | The chosen city’s coordinates, rounded to about 5 km (10 km for air and pollen) |
| Wallhaven wallpapers | Wallhaven | The chosen category, colour, format or keyword, then the images to display; your Wallhaven username if you load a collection |
| Bing and NASA | Bing image archive, NASA | No data about you |
| Quotes | Kaamelott API, OSS 117 API, JokeAPI, No as a Service (a Hostux service) | No data about you; Pas futé futé expressions and Stoic thoughts are served by Hostux |
| Link icons | DuckDuckGo | The site name (for example example.org), never the full address; can be turned off in the settings |
| Web search | The engine you chose | Your search, sent by your browser when you submit it |
To spare the providers and keep the service available, the server caches their answers: forecasts by rounded coordinates, city search results, icons by site name, wallpapers at display size. This cache is not linked to any IP address or visitor. It is renewed continuously and limited in size.
Sync with a code
Optional, it links your browsers with no account. The settings, links, notes and favourites of the space are encrypted in your browser (AES-GCM) with a key derived from the code, before anything is sent. The Hostux server only receives this encrypted data, the time of the last change and a random device identifier; it stores them on gist.hostux.net, a Hostux service, in a form that does not reveal the code. Neither Hostux nor anyone else can read this data without the code, which never leaves your browsers. Your images stay on the device.
The “Delete the online data” button erases the encrypted copy. Without the code, Hostux cannot link it to a person: keep it, there is no way to recover it.
Technical logs
For each request, the web server records the IP address, date, method, path without its parameters, response code and size sent. The browser used, the referring page, cities, coordinates and searches are not recorded.
These logs are only used for security and troubleshooting. They are deleted automatically after 14 days and are neither cross-referenced with other data nor shared with third parties, except under a court order.
Legal basis: Hostux’s legitimate interest in protecting and running the service (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Your rights
Hostux does not know who you are and cannot link a log line to a person without information from you. You can still exercise your rights of access, erasure and objection by writing to help@hostux.net. You can also lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL, or with your local authority.
Hosting
The service and its logs are hosted by Gandi. Details are in the legal notice.
